INTENDED USE
- BacterChrom™ Strep A Agar is a selective chromogenic culture medium designed for the qualitative detection, differentiation, and presumptive identification of Group A Streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes). It aids in diagnosing throat infections caused by this pathogen using throat swabs. Results are observed after 18–24 hours of incubation at 35–37°C in a CO₂ atmosphere.
- This medium is not intended for diagnosing infections, nor for monitoring or guiding treatment. Concomitant cultures are necessary for further microbiological testing or epidemiological typing.
PRINCIPLES
- BacterChrom™ Strep A Agar uses specific chromogenic substrates to detect enzymatic activity unique to target microorganisms, producing distinct colony colors. The selective agents in the medium inhibit non-target organisms, ensuring high specificity and clear visual differentiation of Group A Streptococcus. This enables rapid presumptive identification and supports efficient laboratory workflows.
