INTENDED USE
- BacterChrom™ CCA is a selective chromogenic medium designed for the detection and enumeration of ß-glucuronidase-positive E. coli and coliforms in water samples with low bacterial background flora. It is particularly suited for applications requiring compliance with ISO 9308-1 standards, ensuring safe water quality monitoring for human consumption, including drinking water, pool water, and treated water samples.
- The packaging with semi-permeable Cellophane film helps balance the humidity of the environment during storage.
PRINCIPLES
- Coliforms, Enterobacteriacae able to ferment lactose (lactose positive Enterobacteriacae), are bacteria present not only in human and warm blooded animals intestinal flora but also in the soil and water. Coliforms are proof of organic, environmental or faecal contamination. Faecal contamination, due to coliforms coming from animal waste, consists mainly of Escherichia coli and thermotolerant Klebsiella. Strict regulations exist for E. coli/coliform presence in water samples. This can be explained by the importance of these germs in determining drinking water safety and process efficiency of treatment, storage and distribution.
- BacterChrom™ CCA contains chromogenic substrates that interact with specific enzymatic activities of target organisms, producing distinct colony colors for differentiation. Selective agents are incorporated to suppress non-target organisms, ensuring high specificity and accuracy. This formulation simplifies the identification and enumeration of coliforms and E. coli, supporting efficient workflows in microbiological
