INTENDED USE
- BacterStrain™ Alcohol acid is primarily used in the Ziehl Neelsen staining method to remove the dye from non-acid-fast bacteria, while acid-fast bacteria retain the red color from Carbon Fuchsin. It can also be used in other staining procedures to decolorize non-relevant bacteria.
PRINCIPLES
- In the Ziehl Neelsen method, alcohol acid (typically ethanol solution mixed with a small amount of hydrochloric acid) is used to decolorize Carbon Fuchsin from non-acid-fast bacteria after staining. Acid-fast bacteria retain the red color due to their unique cell wall structure, while non-acid-fast bacteria lose the color and are counterstained with Methylene Blue, allowing a clear differentiation between the two groups of bacteri
