The pre-poured media on 90mm Petri dishes is used to test the susceptibility of antimicrobials or the paper strip MIC on challenging-to-grow microorganisms such as Neisseria, Haemophilus, and Helicobacter pylori.
PURPOSE
- TraceMedia™ MRSA/ESBL is a chromogenic media used to detect and differentiate MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) and ESBL-producing bacteria (Extended-spectrum β-lactamase).
PRINCIPLE
TraceMedia™ MRSA/ESBL:
- MRSA Detection: It directly detects and identifies MRSA by combining color-indicating substrates and cefoxitin. MRSA bacteria will grow in the presence of cefoxitin and produce pink to pale purple colonies due to the hydrolysis of the chromogenic substrate. Selective agents prevent the growth of gram-negative organisms, fungi, and some other gram-positive cocci.
- ESBL Detection: This media detects Gram-negative bacteria that produce beta-lactamase enzymes that are resistant to penicillins, third-generation extended-spectrum cephalosporins (C3G), and monobactams. The ESBL agar contains a peptone mix as a nutrient source for bacterial growth. Chromogenic mix and selective mix aid in selection and produce coloration for ESBL-producing bacteria.
READING THE RESULTS
- After incubating for the required time, usually 16-24 hours, observe the bacterial colonies growing on the surface of the plate.
- Further identification of isolated bacteria must be carried out through appropriate tests.
