- The pre-poured agar media in 90mm Petri dishes is used for the screening and detection of ESBL (Extended-spectrum β-lactamase) and MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) bacteria.
INTENDED USE:
- TraceMedia™ MRSA/ VRE is a chromogenic media used for the detection and differentiation of MRSA and ESBL-producing bacteria.
PRINCIPLE:
TraceMedia™ MRSA/ VRE:
- The MRSA section allows for direct detection and identification of MRSA through a combination of chromogenic substrates and cefoxitin.
- MRSA bacteria will grow and produce pink to pale purple colonies due to the hydrolysis of the chromogenic substrate.
- Selective agents prevent the growth of Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and some other Gram-positive cocci.
- The ESBL section is a chromogenic media used to detect Gram-negative bacteria that produce beta-lactamase enzymes resistant to penicillins, third-generation cephalosporins (C3G), and monobactams.
- The ESBL media contains a mixture of peptone as a source of nutrients for bacterial growth. Chromogenic and selective mixes aid in the selection and visualization of ESBL-producing bacteria.
READING RESULTS:
- After incubation for the specified time, typically 16-24 hours, observe the bacterial growth on the surface of the plate.
- Further identification of isolated bacteria should be performed using appropriate tests.
