It is intended for use in food safety testing and environmental monitoring to identify contamination with toxin-producing Bacillus cereus.<\/li>\n<li>The packaging with semi-permeable Cellophane film helps balance the humidity of the environment during storage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong style=\"color: #3366ff;\">PRINCIPLES<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Bacillus cereus<\/em> is a spore-forming bacterium commonly found in soil and various food products. It produces toxins that can cause two types of foodborne illnesses:\n<ul>\n<li>Diarrheal illness: Associated with meat or vegetable-containing foods, occurring after long incubation periods (8 \u2013 16 hours).<\/li>\n<li>Emetic illness: Associated with improperly stored cooked rice, occurring after short incubation periods (1 \u2013 6 hours).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>This medium is formulated with selective agents to inhibit the growth of non-target organisms and chromogenic substrates for the differentiation of <em>Bacillus cereus<\/em>.
