INTENDED USE

SpongesCollect™ Cellulose Buffered Peptone Water, 10 mL is designed for microbial sampling from surfaces in food processing, medical, and pharmaceutical environments. The primary purpose of this product is to facilitate the collection of microbial samples from surfaces, equipment, and surrounding areas in food production facilities. Buffered Peptone Water is a non-selective pre-enrichment medium for Salmonella species in food, helping to maintain the viability and stability of microorganisms during transportation and analysis.

PRINCIPLES

SpongesCollect™ Cellulose Buffered Peptone Water, 10 mL utilizes a cellulose sponge, combined with 10 mL of Buffered Peptone Water to collect microorganisms from surfaces. Buffered Peptone Water contains key components such as peptone, sodium chloride (NaCl), and phosphate buffer. Peptone provides a source of nitrogen and amino acids essential for bacterial growth, aiding in the recovery of microorganisms weakened during food processing. Sodium chloride (NaCl) maintains osmotic pressure, creating a favorable environment for microorganisms, while the phosphate buffer helps stabilize the pH, ensuring an optimal environment for bacterial recovery and growth before being transferred to selective media. This process helps protect microorganisms throughout transportation and analysis without altering the sample’s characteristics.

Inspect the SpongesCollect™ product to ensure there is no damage or contamination during storage.
Write sample information on the provided label attached to the product packaging.
Tear the bag along the pre-marked perforated line.
Push the sponge near the edge of the bag so that part of the sponge is exposed for easy handling. Hold the sponge from the outside of the bag and carefully remove it directly by hand, making sure not to touch the inside surface of the bag to avoid contamination.
Rub the SpongesCollect™ sponge on the area to be sampled.
After sampling, return the sponge to the bag. Ensure the sponge does not fall out and avoid direct contact with the outer surface of the packaging.
Use the provided tie to seal the SpongesCollect™ bag by rolling the top of the bag and tightly twisting the tie inside the bag.
The sample must be sent to the laboratory as soon as possible to prevent changes in microbial characteristics. The transportation process should comply with sample storage regulations.

SpongesCollect™ Cellulose Buffered Peptone Water, 10 mL is produced in a closed environment, adhering to strict hygiene regulations. The cellulose sponge is sterilized using gamma irradiation, ensuring no contaminants affect the sample quality.
LabCollect ensures the quality of each product batch of the medium by testing with ATCC reference strains.
