INTENDED USE
- TraceMedia™ Potato Dextrose Agar is recommended in standards applied to cosmetics. It can be used as a selective medium after the addition of chloramphenicol or for application testing. The medium supports the growth of yeast and mold.
- Typical composition is described in NF EN ISO 18416.
PRINCIPLE
- Glucose and potato extract are favorable for the growth of yeast and mold.
- Low pH inhibits most other microorganisms.
- Potato extract eliminates the need for using potato infusion.
RESULTS
- Count the total yeast and mold colonies.
Preparation of Aspergillus spores (NF EN ISO 11930):
Inoculate spore suspension or spore suspension into a mold broth.
- Incubate at 20-25 °C for 7-11 days.
- Assess the antimicrobial protection ability of a cosmetic product (NF EN ISO 11930).
- Antimicrobial Effectiveness Test:
Transfer 1 mL of the test sample confirmed to contain Aspergillus brasiliensis and the control sample into separate sterile Petri dishes.
- Add 15 mL of the test medium into each Petri dish.
- Mix evenly by swirling and allow to solidify.
- Incubate at 20-25 °C for 3-5 days.
Dry medium: White, free-flowing, and uniform powder.
Complete medium: Sabouraud Dextrose Agar.
