INTENDED USE

BacterChrom™ Serratia is a selective and differential chromogenic culture medium designed for the qualitative direct detection of colonization with Serratia marcescens. It is primarily used in intensive care units (ICUs), particularly neonatal ICUs, to aid in infection prevention and control. Additionally, it can be utilized in hygiene monitoring of clinical environments through surface sampling.
The packaging with semi-permeable Cellophane film helps balance the humidity of the environment during storage.

PRINCIPLES

BacterChrom™ Serratia uses chromogenic substrates that react with specific enzymatic activities of target microorganisms to produce distinct colony colors. This differentiation allows for visual identification of Serratia marcescens. The selective agents incorporated into the medium inhibit the growth of non-target organisms, ensuring specificity and reducing interference from competing flora.

Allow to warm to room temperature before inoculation, dry the plates in an incubator with the covers partially removed.
Direct streaking sample onto the plate
Incubate in aerobic conditions at 35 – 37°C for 18 – 24 hours
