INTENDED USE
- BacterTube™ Carybac is a transport and preservation medium designed to maintain the viability of anaerobic bacteria during specimen collection, transportation, and storage. The medium supports the recovery of anaerobic organisms in clinical and research microbiology application.
PRINCIPLES
- BacterTube™ Carybac is formulated to provide a reduced environment for anaerobic bacteria, ensuring their survival during transport:
- Tryptone and Yeast Extract: Provide essential nutrients such as amino acids, peptides, and vitamins to maintain bacterial viability.
- Glucose Monohydrate: Acts as a carbohydrate source, supporting metabolic activity.
- Sodium Thioglycollate and L-Cystine: Create a reduced environment by neutralizing oxygen, which is critical for preserving anaerobic conditions.
- Resazurin: Serves as an oxidation-reduction indicator; the medium is pink in the presence of oxygen and colorless in anaerobic conditions.
- Bacteriological Agar: Provides a semi-solid consistency to stabilize specimens during transport.
- Use a sterile swab to collect the specimen. Insert the swab into the transport medium up to one-third of the tube’s length, then cut or break off the handle. Secure the cap tightly.
- For gastric biopsy samples, press the biopsy fragment down to one-third of the medium’s length in the tube.
- Label the tube and send it to the laboratory as soon as possible, maintaining storage conditions at 4°C.
- Subculture the specimen onto appropriate culture media.
BacterLab ensures the quality of each product batch by testing with ATCC reference strains.
Reference strains | Incubation conditions | Expected results |
Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 | 18 – 24 hours, 35 – 37oC, 5 – 10% CO2 | Good Growth on Subculture Medium |
Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 | Good Growth on Subculture Medium | |
Clostridium perfringens ATCC 13124 | Good Growth on Subculture Medium |
