INTENDED USE
- BacterTube™ BHI 20% Glycerol is used for the preservation of organisms by freezing. It is recommended for long-term storage and ensures the viability of microorganisms under low-temperature conditions
PRINCIPLES
- The Brain Heart Infusion (BHI) medium provides essential nutrients required for the survival of microorganisms. A 20% concentration of glycerol is added to the broths to maintain viability of microorganisms and to protect cell membranes. Glycerol acts as a cryoprotective agent and allows for long-term bacterial preservation
- Open the screw-cap tube containing the BHI 20% glycerol in in a sterile environment.
- Use a sterile swab to collect bacteria or fungi from the surface of an agar plate or add the microbial suspension to the tube (not exceeding the total capacity)
- Mix gently to ensure even distribution
- Freeze the tubes at temperatures appropriate for your laboratory storage (-20°C or -80°C is recommended).
Note: Ensure the tube is tightly closed to prevent contamination or evaporation during storage
RESULTS
- Growth of frozen stock culture on solid media indicates the presence of a viable organism
