INTENDED USE
- BacterTube™ Stuart Amies is designed for the collection, transport, and preservation of microbiological specimens from various sources, including throat, vaginal, and wound samples. This medium ensures the viability of microorganisms without allowing significant growth, aiding in the accurate culture analysis of transported samples.
PRINCIPLES
- This medium provides a balanced environment to maintain bacterial survival during transport. Key components include:
- Chloride salts: Provide essential electrolytes for osmotic balance.
- Phosphates: Act as a buffering system.
- Sodium thioglycollate: Reduces oxidative changes, maintaining a reduced environment.
- Bacterial survival depends on factors such as the type of microorganism, sample concentration, transport conditions, and timely inoculation (within 24 hours).
- Insert the inoculated sterile swab into the upper third of the transport medium within the transport container.
- Break off the protruding portion of the swab stick and securely tighten the container lid.
- Send the sample to the laboratory within 24 hours for culture analysis.
- Specimens can be refrigerated until ready for shipment
