BacterTest™ Nitrite reagent kit

INTENDED USE

BacterTest™ Nitrite regent kit is to detect and determine the presence of nitrite ions in water, food, or environmental samples. Nitrite is a chemical compound that can have a major impact on human and animal health if exceeded, so the detection and measurement of nitrite is very important in fields such as water quality testing, food analysis, and environmental assessment.

PRINCIPLES

BacterTest™ Nitrite regent kit is based on a chemical reaction between nitrite ions in the sample and specific reagents, resulting in a color change. This reaction is based on the ability of nitrite to participate in a series of complexation reactions with other compounds, especially with chemicals in the reagent kit, forming a colored complex that can be observed with the naked eye or measured with a spectrophotometer.

Bacteria are cultured in a prepared Nitrate Broth after 24 – 48 hours at 37°C
Adding 1 – 2 drops of reagent solution A and 1-2 drops of reagent solution B to the bacterial culture medium
Observing the color change of the medium, reading and recording the results

RESULTS

Observe the color change of the environment:
- Red or pink = Positive (there are nitrite ions in the sample and the darker the color, the higher the nitrite concentration)
- No change color or light color = Negative (there are no nitrite ions in the sample).
