INTENDED USE

BacterChrom™ StrepB is a selective chromogenic culture medium that is intended to aid in the qualitative determination of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) colonization in pregnant women. This medium supports the growth of hemolytic and nonhemolytic GBS strains.
BacterChrom™ StrepB is not intended to diagnose infection nor to guide nor monitor treatment for infections. Further identification, susceptibility testing and epidemiological typing is needed on suspect colonie
The packaging with semi-permeable Cellophane film helps balance the humidity of the environment during storage.

PRINCIPLES

The medium contains components that facilitate the differentiation of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) through distinctive color changes in the colonies, allowing easy identification of suspected colonies. These components support the growth of both hemolytic and non-hemolytic strains of GBS, ensuring a reliable and accurate detection process.

BacterChrom™ StrepB can be used with the following specimens: urine, rectal and vaginal specimens. Sampling and transport equipment must be used in accordance with the recommendations of their suppliers for the conservation of Group B Streptococcus.
Relevant samples can be processed either by direct inoculation onto plates or by pre-enrichment in an enrichment medium (as recommended by the CDC).
Bring the agar plates to room temperature. Dry the agar plates in an incubator by partially opening the agar plates
Streak sample onto plate.
Incubate in aerobic conditions at 35 – 37 °C for 18 – 24 hours
