INTENDED USE
- BacterPlate™ Potato Dextrose Agar is used for the cultivation, isolation and enumeration of yeasts and molds from foodstuffs and other materials.
- The packaging with semi-permeable Cellophane film helps balance the humidity of the environment during storage.
PRINCIPLE
- Carbohydrate (Glucose) and potato extraction promote the growth of yeasts and molds while the low pH value partially inhibits the growth of the accompanying bacterial flora. If the medium is to be used for fungal counts, the pH should be adjusted to approximately 3.5. Fungi grow on this medium to develop typical morphology.
- Allow to warm to room temperature before inoculation, dry the plates in an incubator with the covers partially removed.
- Spreading the sample on the surface of the plates.
- Incubation: up to 5 days at 28°C aerobically
RESULTS
- After incubation for the required duration, observe the colonies growing on the surface of the plate for characteristic traits such as colony size, color, and morphology.
- Identification of the isolated bacteria must be carried out through appropriate subsequent tests
