INTENDED USE
- BacterPlate™ Two-Compartment Medium ESBL / KPC is a ready-to-use two-compartment agar medium designed for the detection and differentiation of Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL) and Carbapenemase (KPC) producing bacteria. This product is used in microbiological research, clinical diagnostics, and microbiological quality control of food, water, pharmaceuticals, and animal-derived biological samples.
- The packaging with semi-permeable Cellophane film helps balance the humidity of the environment during storage.
PRINCIPLES
BacterPlate™ Two-Compartment Medium ESBL/KPC
- ESBL Compartment: This medium contains selective components such as cefotaxime or ceftazidime, which are used to isolate Enterobacteriaceae strains that produce ESBL. A color indicator is also included to differentiate between ESBL (+) and ESBL (-) colonies.
- KPC Compartment: This is a selective medium containing antibiotics such as imipenem or meropenem, used to isolate Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) strains that produce Carbapenemase (KPC). KPC-producing colonies will grow well despite the presence of antibiotics, while non-Carbapenemase-producing bacteria will either not grow or grow weakly.
- Allow the agar plates to reach room temperature before use.
- Dry the agar plates in an incubator with the lid slightly open.
- Inoculate the sample by spreading it evenly on the surface of the agar using a sterile inoculating loop.
- Incubate at 35–37°C for 18–24 hours.
RESULTS
MRSA Compartment
- MRSA (+): Colonies have a characteristic color (usually pink/purple/red), growing well.
- MRSA (–): No growth or weak growth. (MSSA)
KPC Compartment
- KPC (+): Colonies have a characteristic color, growing well despite the presence of antibiotics.
- KPC (–): No growth or weak growth.
