INTENDED USE
- BacterChrom™ Candida Agar is a selective chromogenic culture medium intended for use in the qualitative direct detection, differentiation and presumptive identification of Candida species
- The packaging with semi-permeable Cellophane film helps balance the humidity of the environment during storage.
PRINCIPLES
- The chromogenic substances in the medium interact with specific enzymes produced by Candida species, resulting in the development of distinct colony colors. This allows for differentiation among various species without additional biochemical tests. The selective agents inhibit the growth of bacteria and other non-target microorganisms, ensuring the specificity of the medium.
- BacterChrom™ Candida Agar can be used with the following specimens: Swabs from skin, throat, ears and vaginal specimens, sputum, urine and stools. Use of transport devices approved for collection of such specimens is recommended.
- Relevant samples can be processed either by direct inoculation onto plates
- Bring the agar plates to room temperature. Dry the agar plates in an incubator by partially opening the agar plates
- Streak sample onto plate.
- Incubate in aerobic conditions at 35 – 37 °C for 20 – 48 hours
RESULTS
- Qualitative reading and interpretation of the plates
| Microorganisms | Typical colony appearance |
| C. albicans | green |
| C. tropicalis | metallic blue |
| C. krusei | pink, fuzzy |
| C. kefyr, C. glabrata | mauve-brown |
| Other species | white to mauve |
BacterLab ensures the quality of each product batch by testing with ATCC reference strains.
